Physical exericise was for both boys and girls. The boys needed to be strong and fit so they would be good soldiers. Boys age 6-10 mainly focused on outdoor activities including hiking, camping and exericise. They swam, ran and played sports. This was very fun and enjoyable for them as it was a way to be free from their families and spend time with their friends.
Once boys reached the age of 10-13 they started preparing for the military. This age group still went camping, hiking, etc. but it encorporated more military type things. These included learning how to read maps, marching, and parading. Finally when boys fell into the catagory of 14-18, they actually started preparing to fight. They were taught how to shoot guns and think fast on their feet. And on March 13, 1942 Hitler ordered three new military camps to provide even more militray training for all boys age 16-18.
Learning the Nazi views were essential for Hitler Youth members. Boys took a oath at the age of ten: "In the presence of this blood-banner which represents our Fuhrer I swear to devote all my energies, and my strength to the Savior of our Country, Adolf Hitler. I am willing and ready to give up my life for him, so help me God. One People, one Reich, one Fuhrer." Hitler was like their God and children spent lots of time learning Nazi principles, like the superiority of the Aryans and the inferiority of the Jews.
Thousands of people gathered to hear Hitler speak. They were held in a big arena which is still the soccer stadium for the city of Nuremburg. Hitler youth members were a big part of the Rallies. They came very early in the morning to prepare for Hitler's arival. At the rallies, children heard inspiring music and were taught Nazi views.
